day 134

The river at ocean grove is disgusting. Flooding upstream has washed all kinds of organic matter into it, which has started decomposing and leached the oxygen from the water. As a result, the water is a reddish brown colour and there are dozens of dead fish along the banks. Not only that but the ocean is coffee coloured and the beach is covered in vast, mesmerising piles of discoloured foam. It takes a concerted effort to remember that the foam is part of what killed the fish, and it would, in fact, be quite unsanitary to frolic through the weightless puffs.
